Obsidian Mind Nova

Nova Bomb as a second grenade. Skull of Dire Ahamkara refunds Super energy on Nova Bomb final blows and on weapon final blows while you have Devour, and the Iron Battalion four-piece refunds more on top for anything killed while the Super was out. Stack them and one Nova Bomb into a crowded room returns something like half your Super — occasionally most of it.

The Exotic also hands you a free Nova Bomb: Lance after the cast, and an empowered Cataclysm if you detonate the two together. That is where the big refunds come from, and it is the reason to throw the Super at a room instead of saving it for a boss.

Written for ordinary end-game — the source frames it as a nostalgia build for Destiny 1’s Obsidian Mind, and it plays like one.

How it plays

Build the Super with Bad Juju and grenades, throw it at the densest thing you can find, collect most of it back, and top the rest off with the gun.

Underneath that, the grenade is doing more than charging the Super. Chaos Accelerant makes Axion Bolt throw double seekers; Echo of Undermining makes the Void grenades weaken; Echo of Harvest turns a weakened kill into an Orb of Power and a Void Breach; and Void Hegemony off the Artifact turns the same kill into a Void Overshield. Feed the Void gives Devour on any ability kill, so one grenade heals you to full, weakens the room, shields you, and pays for the next one.

Echo of Expulsion makes Void ability kills explode, which is mostly for the look, and Echo of Reprisal grants Super energy for final blows while surrounded — a fourth refund on a build that already has three.

Why the gear

Skull of Dire Ahamkara and four pieces of Iron Battalion are the build. The set’s four-piece, Supercyclical, is the half most people will not have: it refunds Super energy for final blows landed while the Super was active, paid out when it ends. The two-piece, Primary Honing, scales primary damage against non-boss combatants off your Weapons stat, which is a quiet argument for putting spare points there.

Bad Juju is the nostalgia pick and it happens to be correct. Its kills refill the magazine and grant Super energy scaled by String of Curses, so it is the cleanest way to close the gap between the refund and a full bar. It is not required — the source says to run whatever you like — but nothing else tops off a Super this fast.

The Artifact is the Hunter’s Journal, for Void Hegemony, Elemental Siphon and Expanding Abyss. Expanding Abyss is the damage one: your grenades weaken constantly, and Void sources hit weakened targets harder, so the Nova Bomb and the grenades both benefit from a debuff you never apply deliberately. Shieldcrush is worth taking alongside, given you are holding an overshield most of the time. The rest of the Artifact is indifferent to this Build — Tablet of Ruin’s Limit Break for a bigger Nova Bomb is a defensible swap.

The energy and power slots are free.

The spread

200 Super, because the entire premise is throwing it constantly. 100 Grenade next and treat it as a floor, not a target — the grenade applies the weaken, feeds Devour, generates the orbs and the Void Breach, and is doing damage in its own right.

Weapons after that, for Primary Honing and for Bad Juju. Class is the alternative if you would rather have the rift more often. Melee and Health do nothing here.
